homophobic crime

In 1992, a survey investigated general attitudes to the rights of gay people. A poll of 1000 voters, carried out by Harris, revealed that 71% agreed that "Lesbians and gay men should have the same rights under the law as everyone else".

A further survey in 1998 took on board ideas about anti-discriminatory legislation. In a survey of 600 heterosexuals, carried out by Social and Community Planning Research in May 1998, 67% of those asked agreed that "there should be laws to protect gays and lesbians from discrimination".

Public opinion is well on the way to agreeing that homophobia is a form of prejudice which should be subject to anti-discriminatory law.If you or anyone you know has been a victim of homophobic crime, call your local police support officer:-
