The Suffolk
Gay and Lesbian Helpline (SGALH) was founded in 1988 and is
part of the long tradition of self help within the gay and lesbian
community. SGALH is just one of the many gay and lesbian helplines
which have been established to meet the differing needs of the
community.
Each year
we answer many calls, ranging from people who are deeply unhappy
with their present situation, through to parents who are worried
about the future of their gay or lesbian child's future. Other
callers want to know where to meet other gays or lesbians while
they are in Suffolk or travelling away. All of our counsellors
are gay, lesbian or bisexual and are trained in helpline counselling.
This involves listening, giving information and utilising our
own knowledge of the gay and lesbian community.
Drop-in
We
also run a friendly, cafe style drop-in in central Ipswich.
